What on Earth Is Meteorite?

When it comes to gems and precious stones, none is more impressive than meteorite. It’s enough to think of its long celestial journey, age, and the probability of it ending up where it did to start feeling wonderfully small in comparison to the vastness of the universe. Meteorites have a story to tell, and each has been made of the same star matter that is the building block of everything that exists.

The Physical Properties of Meteorite

Meteorite is not a typical earthly crystal, mineral, or gemstone, so its physical properties can vary wildly based on its composition. However, meteorite still displays some unifying physical characteristics that help define it as something other than “a rock that fell from space.”

Meteorite has a massive, uniformly indistinguishable crystal habit. On the Mohs hardness scale, meteorite is usually classified as a 4 or 5. It has a black or gray streak, and it is opaque in transparency, with a dull, dark color.

The History of Meteorite

Every meteorite is unique and special, coming to us as a piece of celestial debris that has traveled through space to reach our planet. It travels at extremely fast speeds, enduring immense atmospheric friction which heats it before it falls to earth. Meteorite has two discovery classifications. Typically, it’s meteorite finds, which are random and sometimes occur long after the meteorite has fallen. The other type is meteorite falls, which happen after a meteorite’s fall has been observed and traced to the location of impact.

The Lore of Meteorite

The ancient peoples observing the sky soon found the meteorites and wove powerful legends and myths around them. For ancient Egyptians, meteorite iron was as special and valuable as gold, and they put it into the tombs of their most powerful pharaohs. Native Americans are also known to have worshiped meteorite artifacts and placed them into their ancient graves, such as the Hopewell Mounds.

But meteorite plays a significant role in most other religions and legends of ancient people. According to the Bible, it was a heavy meteorite rain that destroyed the armies of five kings. In Mecca’s famous Islamic shrine, the Ka’ba, there is a black meteoritic stone built into a wall. According to legend, this was done by the prophet Muhammad. In 1492, the fall of a stony meteorite in France’s Alsace region was interpreted as a good omen for The Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian during his war with the Turks and the French.

The Metaphysical Properties of Meteorite

Meteorite is believed to have many wondrous healing properties, especially for people suffering from anemia or tissue degeneration. Emotionally, meteorite is believed to be a perfect balancer, helping the wearer attune to the world and find contentedness. It can also aid in improving your meditation capabilities and adjusting to a new environment.

Meteorite is also associated with the Crown Chakra, which helps the wearer find and understand their inner voice. It’s also believed to help achieve clarity of thought, enhance spiritual growth, and increase psychic capabilities.

Its properties and origin guarantee that meteorite will be a much-loved and much-used addition to your collection of crystals.
