What on Earth Is Adamite?

Adamite is a zinc arsenate mineral that can create beautiful crystals. They’ve been fascinating crystal enthusiasts for hundreds of years, as they have many unusual properties.

The Physical Properties of Adamite

Adamite crystals can vary in colour, from white and pale, transparent or translucent pale yellow, to green, bluish green, and even pink or transparent violet colour. As far as colours go, adamite gets its yellow shade thanks to the iron content in the mineral, while green comes from copper. Purple colour from cobalt can also be present.

Adamite is cut into gorgeous faceted stones. Its lustre varies — it can be vitreous, sub-vitreous, waxy or greasy and each has its advantages when it comes to the appearance of the stone. It’s a 3.5 on the Mohs hardness scale, which is relatively low.

The History of Adamite

Adamite named after the French mineralogist who discovered it, Gilbert-Joseph Adam. He discovered adamite in the Atacama Region of Chile, along with many other minerals, and it got its name in 1866, thanks to Charles Friedel. As a member of Société géologique de France, Adam was honoured with the title of Commandeur de la Légion d’Honneur.

The Lore of Adamite

Adamite is not mentioned or linked to any legends or myths due to its relatively recent discovery, nor was it used by ancient civilizations as many precious stones were. However, adamite still deserves its reputation as a stone of healing, and it’s among the favourites of crystal healers and enthusiasts because of its properties.

The Metaphysical Properties of Adamite

Adamite is said to work best on the solar plexus and heart chakras, as it can help you relight the fire inside you and become more optimistic and determined in the pursuit of the destiny you desire. It’s also believed to help heal depression, lift the mental fog, and make up for lack of energy. Adamite exposes your wants and desires and enables you to find a way to make your dreams come true.

When it comes to its physical healing properties, adamite is believed to have a beneficial effect on the endocrine system as it can help with chemical imbalances and regulate your hormones, helping primarily with PMS. Adamite can forge a strong connection of body and mind which increases mindfulness and enables you to find joy in exercise, in case you’ve lost it.

As for emotional healing, adamite is an excellent stone if you feel you lack calm in your life, and if there are communication issues between you and your loved ones. Adamite can help you communicate your feelings more clearly while dampening the intensity of your negative emotions such as anger and frustration. As a powerful creative stone, adamite is also said to have a beneficial effect on your metaphysical and psychic gifts, making it easier to trust in your spiritual purpose.

Despite its relative rarity, adamite has found its way into the collection of many crystal enthusiasts, and it’s not hard to see why. With so many beneficial effects it can provide you, this beautiful stone is undoubtedly worthy of a place next to even the more well-known crystals.
