Libyan Glass Crystal #3

Libyan desert glass is the sister to Moldavite! also known and called Libyan Gold Tektite or Great Sand Sea Glass. They are a golden yellow color. This is an unusual gold colored substance, some believe it to be a tektite.

Libyan desert glass arose around 29 million years ago. The glass generated as a result of a meteorite impact or an airburst from an asteroid or other item burning up high in the Earth’s atmosphere. The meteorite’s impact shot molten rock and sand into the stratosphere, forming a glass-like substance that developed when the debris returned to Earth.

Some fragments appear to be pitted like meteorites, while others appear to have been polished and blasted over time by sand storms and other terrestrial events. To melt, it must be heated over 500 degrees warmer than conventional glass. When red hot, it will not readily break if put into cold water. It resembles a stone rather than glass. Some experts believe the glass is a tektite due to traces of iridium, a material present in numerous meteorites. They all agree that desert glass has peculiar qualities that are difficult to describe!

Desert Glass is useful for people who do not feel completely connected to the Earth. Spiritually, the stone conveys great solar energy and rich life force, working as a protective amulet for any physical or metaphysical trip. It enables one to travel beyond the limitations of what is known and over the borders of awareness. Whatever your views, may you have a good time with your glass.
