Calcite
More Info
Calcite (CaCO3) is a rock-forming mineral and the primary constituent of marble and limestone. Attractive specimens can be faceted or used for cabochons.
According to legend, the ancient Egyptians were quite fond of calcite. They fashioned it into artifacts and also adorned the tombs of the pharaohs with it.

Origin
Calcite can be found anywhere in the world, but some of its important gem localities are in Myanmar, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Iceland.
Physical Properties
Calcite can appear in a variety of colors: from white, yellowish and colorless, to more vibrant colors like pink, orange, and a bluish shade.
It has a relatively low Mohs hardness of three, and it most prominently comes with rhombohedral cleavage. Calcite can exhibit fluorescence, thermoluminescence, and phosphorescence.
Its transparency ranges from transparent to opaque. Calcite also has vitreous or resinous luster when fashioned into ornamental objects.
Metaphysical Properties
Calcite is a protecting, grounding, and centering stone. It helps bring inner peace. Since Calcite also promotes creativity and imagination, the inner peace it can bring is a vibrant one.
It also increases and amplifies energy. This makes it an excellent stone for distance healing, as well as other types of healing. One of the energies it amplifies is learning abilities, and thus is a great stone for students.
Calcite is especially helpful with emotional and mental conditions.
