The category you keep almost adding

Customers have asked. You have seen the shelf at the shop two doors down and watched people pick things up. You have looked at a wholesale site at 11pm, added $600 of stones to a cart, thought about where it would even go, and closed the tab.

Three things stopped you, and they are all reasonable: you do not have floor space, you do not want to be the store that jumped on a trend, and you have been burned before by a category that sat there until you marked it down.

Crystals are not a department. Done properly they are one shelf of impulse buys that funds itself in a season.

The shops that make this work do not buy a crystal range. They buy six to ten pieces at three price points, put them where people queue, and reorder the two that sold. That is the whole play, and the rest of this page is how to run it.

The one-shelf starter plan

What a first order looks like in a store that is not a crystal store. Listed prices are our retail tags; your wholesale price is lower and shows once you are approved and logged in.

What How many Space Listed cost Sells as
Tumbled stones, 3 kinds 1 bag each (amethyst, rose quartz, clear quartz) A bowl or tray $18–$54 a bag $4–$12 counter impulse
Worry stones One 5-pack Beside the till $35 $10–$16 each, the “something to hold” buy
Bead bracelets 10–12 pieces, 3 stones A small stand or bowl $7–$22 each $18–$40, the most-gifted item on the shelf
A boxed set 3–5 Intention or Zodiac collections One facing $15 each $32–$45 gift, wraps itself
Selenite sticks One 10-pack A jar $14 $5–$8 add-on at the till
One statement piece A cluster, sphere or tower The shelf's anchor $30–$150 $80–$350, and it makes the small things look cheap
Meaning cards 10-packs for your top stones Nothing — they go in the bag $10 per 10 Free with purchase. It is what makes the sale make sense

That is roughly a $300 order at listed prices, which is also the point where shipping is free and the 365-day exchange applies. If two of those seven lines sell through and one does not, you have learned more than any trend report could tell you — and the one that did not can be exchanged.

The three price points a shelf needs

A crystal shelf fails when everything on it costs the same. Three bands do the work: something to grab, something to gift, something to stare at.

Band Retail What lives there Why it earns its space
Counter impulse $4–$12 Tumbled stones, selenite sticks, small worry stones Bought without thinking. Funds the shelf and gets the category started
Gift $15–$40 Bracelets, boxed collections, hearts, palm stones The reason the shelf exists. Wraps itself and needs no explanation
Statement $50–$150+ Clusters, spheres, towers, geodes Rarely the volume, always the reason someone stops walking

Markup convention in this category runs from keystone (2×) to 3×, and most shops land at 2.5×. At 2.5× a $10 landed stone is a $25 retail with 60% margin. Our free pricing guide works through it properly.

Shops like yours already do this

A crystal shelf works when it agrees with the rest of the room. Where it usually goes:

Plant shops

Small tumbles and clusters in with the pots and propagation stations. The overlap in customer is nearly total, and stones do not need watering.

Bookstores

Beside the tarot, astrology and wellness shelves. Booksellers call these sidelines, and they carry the margin the books cannot.

Candle & apothecary shops

Stones with candles, incense and bath. The ritual story is already being told at your counter — this finishes the sentence.

Garden centres

Not a joke — one of our long-standing wholesale customers is a garden centre in British Columbia. Gift departments with heavy spring traffic sell decor pieces surprisingly well.

Spas & wellness studios

A small retail shelf at reception, where a client who just felt good is looking for something to take with them.

Boho & lifestyle boutiques

Bracelets with jewellery, tumbles at the till, one big piece in the window. The natural home for the whole category.

Frequently asked questions

What shop owners ask before they add the category. Marked up as FAQ schema for search and AI assistants.

Will this work in my shop?

Do crystals actually sell well in a boutique or gift shop?

They sell where they are visible and priced for impulse. The pattern we see across hundreds of retailers is that a small, well-placed shelf outperforms a big one: tumbled stones at $4–$12 near the till, bracelets in the $18–$40 gift band, and one statement piece as the anchor.

Can I sell crystals if I'm not a crystal shop?

Yes, and most of our customers are not crystal shops. Plant shops, bookstores, candle shops, spas, boutiques and garden centres all carry them. One of our long-standing wholesale customers is a garden centre in British Columbia.

Will crystals make my store look like it's chasing a trend?

Only if the selection looks borrowed. Choose stones whose colours agree with your existing palette, keep the display small and deliberate, and let the meaning cards do the explaining. A tidy tray of three stones reads as curation. Forty random SKUs read as a trend.

How much space do I need?

About a square foot to start. Six to ten pieces on a tray or small riser beside the till is a real test. You can always give the category more room once it earns it.

What should my first order include?

Three kinds of tumbled stones, one 5-pack of worry stones, a dozen bracelets across three stones, three to five boxed collections, a 10-pack of selenite sticks and one statement piece. At listed prices that is around $300, which is also where shipping goes free and the 365-day exchange applies.

Is selling crystals profitable?

The margin is good by retail standards — markup convention runs 2× to 3×, and most shops land at 2.5×, which is a 60% margin. The risk is not margin, it is buying the wrong stones in the wrong quantity, which is what the exchange policy and the free shelf plan exist to prevent.

Terms, ordering and risk

Is there a minimum order?

No minimum, ever. You can order a single bag of tumbled stones. Free shipping starts at $300 CAD.

Do I need a business licence or GST/HST number to buy wholesale in Canada?

No. We do not require a tax number or a resale certificate. Tell us about your shop — a storefront, a website or an established social shop is enough — and most accounts are approved in under one business day.

What happens if the crystals don't sell?

On wholesale orders of $300 or more you have 365 days to exchange unsold, unused, sellable stock for store credit. We cover return shipping in the first 30 days; after that you do. Final-sale, clearance, live-sale, custom and digital items are excluded. That is the policy that makes a first crystal order safe for a shop that has never sold one.

How fast is shipping and what does it cost?

Free over $300 CAD, $19 flat under it, and 2–5 business days to most Canadian provinces from our Kitchener warehouse. Heavy items and remote addresses are quoted separately. Reorder on Monday and it is usually on the shelf that week.

Can I pay over time?

Yes. Affirm appears as a pay-over-time option at our regular checkout. If you would rather have trade terms, order us on Faire and use their 60-day terms.

Should I order direct or through Faire?

Faire if payment terms matter more than range or price. Direct if you want the full catalogue, the best pricing and the 365-day exchange. Same warehouse, same stones, same people packing them.

Do you have a physical location I can visit?

Yes — 396-B Victoria St N, Kitchener, Ontario. Wholesale customers can shop the showroom and the warehouse. Our Off the Truck sale each March is the best in-person buying window of the year.

Merchandising and staff

How do I display crystals in a store?

Height, light and touch. Put small stones in a shallow bowl or tray where hands can reach them, raise one statement piece on a riser so it catches light at eye level, and keep the price visible on everything. Crystals sell by being picked up, so never put them behind glass at the start.

How do I train staff to answer “what's this one for?”

Give them one sentence per stone and permission to say “people usually keep this one for calm”. Our printed meaning cards and the laminated Healing Crystals QuickStudy guide do most of the work, and the free shelf plan includes a 60-second script. Nobody needs to become an expert to sell a $10 stone.

How much should I mark up crystals?

Between 2× and 3× your landed cost, with 2.5× the common landing spot. Round to prices that feel natural at a till ($8, $12, $25). Our free pricing guide walks through it with examples.

What price points work best for impulse buys?

$4–$12 is the counter band where people do not deliberate. $15–$40 is the gift band. Above $50 you are selling a decor object, and it needs its own space and lighting to earn the price.

Which crystals sell best in a gift shop?

Amethyst, rose quartz and clear quartz outsell everything else, because they are the three people can name. Black tourmaline, citrine and selenite round out a first shelf. Colour sells: people reach for what matches their home before they read what it means.

Product and sourcing

How do I know the crystals are real and not dyed?

Treated material is labelled. Dyed, heated and electroplated pieces carry “Enhanced” in the product title, and trained gemologists check shipments in Kitchener before they go into stock. You can repeat that disclosure to your customers with confidence.

Where do your crystals come from?

Direct from family-run mines and cutting houses in Brazil, India, Madagascar, Morocco, Pakistan, Mexico and Australia — relationships going back decades, built by our founder, who trained as a mining engineer in Brazil. We pay fairly across that chain and will tell you the origin of anything you ask about.

Are the stones ethically sourced?

We buy from suppliers we know personally and have visited, rather than through anonymous brokers, and our commitment is that everyone in the chain is fairly paid. We would rather show you the specific relationship behind a stone than wave a certification at you.

Do you carry salt lamps, essential oils or tarot decks?

No. We stock stone, plus incense, cleansing bundles, candle holders, trinket boxes and display pieces. If a supplier is trying to be everything, somebody else is picking their stones.
