What Is Blue Apatite?

What Is Blue Apatite?

Blue apatite is a spiritual stone which deeply cleanses the aura. Crystal healers believe the crystal can be used to access the Akashic records for past-life or alternate-life work.

As a dream stone, blue apatite is used to develop creative solutions to problems, seeing vertical vision, and achieving lucid dream states.

The Physical Properties of Blue Apatite

Colour wise, apatite is usually green. But it can also be blue, yellow, brown, pink, purple, or colourless. Apatite crystals are also luminescent. And blue apatite glows a violet-blue to sky blue under ultraviolet light. The blueness of this crystal can be light, bright, or dark blue.

Apatite is a soft and brittle mineral that breaks by cleavage and fracture. Hexagonal apatite crystals form in hydrothermal veins and pegmatite pockets.

The History of Blue Apatite

Apatite was classified in 1786 by German geologist Abraham Gottlob Werner, a teacher of mining and mineralogy at the Freiberg Mining Academy. The name came from the Greek word epstein which means to deceive or to be misleading. This is because apatite was often confused with beryl and peridot.

The mineral forms in different geologic conditions, but it is found in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. The most significant apatite deposits are in sedimentary rocks that occurred in seas and lakes (known as lacustrine environments).

In these deposits, phosphate-based materials like teeth, bones, and scales had accumulated and mineralized. These deposits can be rich enough in phosphorus to be mined and used as ingredients in fertilizers and other chemical products.

Apatite is found in Brazil, Canada, India, Madagascar, and Mexico. But blue apatite mainly comes from Brazil, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka.

To increase supply, laboratories have synthesized apatite in laboratories for agricultural, medical, and industrial uses. Some crystals are heat treated to enhance their colour, especially for blue and blue-green apatite varieties.
