Understanding the Basics Concepts of Energy Healing

Holistic forms of medicine come with some skepticism, and that's understandable. The problem is that many people don't actually understand what holistic healing methods actually do and how they work. Energy healing falls into this category, and it can be attributed to helping clients with both their mental and physical health.

In a nutshell, energy healing is the process of identifying and removing energy blocks within your body. These energy blocks can prevent or hinder many functions, both physical and mental. Once these blocks have been removed, the body can begin to heal itself, and the mind can function with less emotional baggage and clarity.

A common misconception about energy healing is that it's some new form of holistic treatment, invented by someone within the past few decades as a snake oil scam. This is certainly not the case.

In fact, energy healing can be traced back thousands of years and can be found in many different countries and culture.

The History and Modern Application of Energy Healing

In India, an ancient tradition that dates back 5,000 years involves a universal energy. This energy, Prana, is considered to be the breath of life that exists within all living forms.

In China, during the 3rd millennium BCE, many spiritualists believed in Chi which quickly caught on within traditional Chinese medicine. Chi is made up of both yin and yang, concepts most will be familiar with as it exists within popular culture around the world today. In traditional medicine, however, yin and yang are more than a black and white symbol. When a person's yin and yang are in balance, the person is healthy. In order to restore this balance, acupuncture was created.

Fast-forward to the 20th century. Dr. John Pierrakos developed bioenergetic analysis, a form of therapy that focuses on the energy connection between the body and the mind. With his wife, Dr. Eva Pierrakos, he developed Core Energetics, an energy healing method focusing on the ego and personality. It's a form of energy healing that focuses on a totally balanced being, from the physical parts of a person to their psyche and spiritual components.

Energy Exists within All of Us

A large part of energy healing in any culture is a unity between all things. This isn't just a spiritual medium, but instead a scientific principle. We are all made of molecules that vibrate continuously, and this is even true of inanimate objects that are all, too, made up of atoms.

Energy is something that many people understand at a base level but not as it pertains to their health. When you walk into a party and feel a strange tension in the air, that's energy – and it's also something that many people believe to be a real thing. This same sort of sensation exists within a person as well.

Because energy is something that exists within all of us, energy healing is perhaps one of the most accessible forms of holistic medicine. From acupuncture to crystal therapy, there are many different ways to participate in energy healing. Other common methods of energy healing include Reiki, reflexology, massage and different forms of yoga. There are also DIY forms of energy healing, like energetic cleansing and smudging.

This is a very basic introduction to energy healing – we could go on about this subject for days! Follow our blog for more information about energy healing, gemstones and other forms of spiritual enlightenment.
