The Physical Properties of Elestial Quartz

Elestial quartz refers to a clear or cloudy white quartz type with a hexagonal structure. It is characterized with one main crystal point and several smaller ones embedded around the main point, each having different widths and heights.

The way the crystals are formed on one base parallel to each other is what reminds us of towers and turrets. Elestial quartz is a silicon dioxide (SiO2) mineral with a Mohs hardness of 8 and a vitreous luster.

Quartz with multiple triangular or pyramidal terminations is called alligator quartz because of its resemblance to the scales on the back of an alligator or crocodile.

Pure crystals are found in Africa, Brazil, Madagascar, Russia, and Switzerland. They can occur as pyramids on the base of a geode, as tall and huge prismatic crystals, or as stubby crystal blocks.

The History of Elestial Quartz

The unusual shape of this crystal (small crystals around the body arranged in a step-and-repeat pattern) is a result of the unstable conditions during its crystallization process. This is common in macrocrystalline quartz and smoky quartz. It happens rarely in citrine and amethyst crystals.

Elestial quartz grows in vugs or pockets in granitic pegmatites. Sometimes, it is found together with rare pegmatite minerals like lepidolite and amblygonite, or with rare pegmatite gems like aquamarine, tourmaline, and kunzite.

Quartz crystals have been used as a material for ornaments and religious objects for many years. In the medieval times, quartz crystals were polished into spheres for scrying and divination. Some cultures would use the crystal to interpret current events and to diagnose and heal diseases.

The Lore of Elestial Quartz

This quartz type is called ˜elestial' (meaning ˜crystal of the angels') because the crystal is believed to hold the energies of the angels and has the power to connect a person to the divine realm.

As a birthstone, elestial crystal is associated with all astrological signs as well as zodiac signs namely Capricorn, Scorpio, and Sagittarius.

The Metaphysical Properties of Elestial Quartz

Elestial quartz is also called ˜Lightbrary' (a portmanteau of ˜light' and ˜library'); an information-bearing stone that assists a person in accessing the Akashic Records.
