K2 Granite
More Info
K2 granite (also called “K2 Jasper,” “raindrop azurite,” or simply “K2”) is an eye-catching rock widely used in lapidary. It is a bright white granite embedded with bright blue azurite orbs.
It granite can be cut and shaped easily due to its high feldspar content. It is best used in rock tumbling as it cuts and polishes beautifully, revealing the stark contrast of blue orbs against the stone’s white base.
Origin
K2 granite is named after a mountain in the Karakoram Range on the border between China and Pakistan. These raw rocks featured here are sourced from Pakistan.
Physical Properties
The blue azurite specks can be as small as a few millimetres to 2 centimetres in diameter. They look like splotches of blue ink on the stone but at a closer inspection, they’re actually sphere-shaped.
With a Mohs hardness rating of 6, K2 granite is durable enough for jewelry use, although it will get scratched or show signs of wear over time if exposed to abrasion or impact. It may not be a good stone to mount in a bracelet or ring.
Metaphysical Properties
- Unblocks and activates the crown and third eye chakras
- Enhances psychic abilities (i.e., telepathy, lucid dreaming, astral projection)
- Increases knowledge that leads to the path to your higher self
