What we carry
- Trilobites: sea creatures related to crabs and insects, common in Moroccan rock, shown on small stone stands.
- Orthoceras: straight-shelled relatives of squid, polished in black limestone and often cut into towers.
- Ammonites: spiral-shelled sea animals, sold as buttons and pairs.
- Ammolite: the colourful, iridescent shell of ammonites from southern Alberta, one of Canada's own gemstones.
Prepared and restored
Many fossils are prepared by hand to expose them from the rock, and some are partly restored or set into a stone base. That is normal practice in the fossil trade.
Fossils FAQ
Are these real fossils?
Yes. They are natural fossils, many of them prepared by hand to expose them from the rock. Some are set into or polished with the surrounding stone.
Where is ammolite from?
Ammolite comes from the Bearpaw Formation in southern Alberta. It is the shell of ammonites, made colourful by the structure of its layers.
How old are trilobites?
Trilobites lived in the sea for roughly 270 million years and died out about 250 million years ago. Most of those sold in shops come from Morocco.
