The History of Blue Calcite

The name calcite was derived from the Latin word calx which means lime. Calcite (CaCO3) is a rock-forming mineral and is one of the world's most abundant minerals.

It forms everywhere: in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks. It also occurs in veins. Marble and limestone primarily consist of calcite.
