Soapstone Starter Carving Kit
Everything a first-time carver needs, in a kraft carry pack with a printed step-by-step panel: two 3"x3"x3/4" soapstone blocks, a steel rasp carving tool and four grades of sanding paper (100, 360, 600 and 2000 grit). No chisel or hammer needed, and most projects run two to five hours. Designed and assembled in Canada; ages 6 and up.
Soapstone is soft enough to shape with hand tools alone — chess pieces, an inukshuk, figurines and jewellery are all within reach of a first attempt. The printed steps cover drawing, filing, sanding through the grits, then polishing. It is often associated with calm, steady work.
These are natural blocks, so colour, veining and hardness vary and no two carvings come out alike. Work over a cloth and buff the finished piece dry.
